WORKING SESSION - 4:00 P.M.
Department Head Reports:
SPD Chief Victor Cuyler stated that an arrest has been made in the armed robbery case at Jet 58.
SFD Chief Russell Riner reported that there were two house fires last week. Riner urges anyone having problems with getting necessary repairs made to property they are renting, should contact the building inspector. Riner commended the fire and police departments for their team work in responding to the fire calls. Riner stated that the training in Tennille was a great learning experience.
Electric Department Head Wayne Poole reported that the electric department will be installing road way lights on Highway 15 North.
Council Member Mayme Dennis stated that she and Police Chief Victor Cuyler will be reviewing applications for police officer.
At this time, Council Member Mayme Dennis moved to go into Executive Session for the purpose of personnel; Council Member Neil Pittman seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
EXECUTIVE SESSION - 4:30 P.M. Land Acquisition - Personnel Matters - Legal
REGULAR SESSION - 5 P.M.
Mayor Pro Tem Jeffery Smith called the November 17, 2008 meeting of the Sandersville City Council to order. Council Member Henry Watts gave the invocation and Capers Braswell led the pledge to the American flag.
Council Member Henry Watts moved to adopt the minutes of the November 3, 2008 Council meeting; Council Member Armstrong seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Council Member Armstrong moved to adopt the minutes of the November 3, 2008 Budget Retreat pending changes; Council Member Watts seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
City Attorney Bob Wynne stated that he is still working on easements for the street widening project pertaining to Zaxby's.
City Attorney Bob Wynne spoke in support of the amendment and urged council to pass it again this year. Council Member Armstrong moved to accept the MEAG Amendment; Council Member Dennis seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Council Member Watts moved to hire Amber Kelly as Administrative Assistant for Public Works; Council Member Pittman seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
COUNCIL COMMENTS
Mayor Pro Tem Smith stated that the city looks good.
Council Member Dennis asked about the additional prison detail work. Dennis stated that she would be meeting with the building and zoning and Mayor Pro Tem Smith to discuss out of zoning issues.
Council Member Henry Watts inquired about the scheduling of any new sidewalk construction. The sidewalk from Ace Hardware to Wal Mart is pending a clearance letter and will not being construction till February.
Council Member Martha Armstrong asked Wayne Poole about setting up the boards for the Pilot Club Light-A-Lites. The ceremony will be held Tuesday, December 2 at 6 p.m. Downtown Open House is December 5th.
Council Member Neil Pittman inquired about a dip in the road on E. Church St. just passed Smith St. Pittman also asked that the drive way for Outback Heating and Cooling be scraped.
City Administrator Will Goforth verified with council the holiday schedule with offices being closed December 25 and 26th.
COMMENTS FROM PUBLIC
Susan Lewis of Downtown Development Authority thanked everyone for letting Sandersville host the Douglas DDA.
With no further business to come before the Council, Mayor Pro Tem Smith adjourned the meeting.
